A quick hello

Monday, December 5, 2016

Hi! Sorry for the months of radio silence, including even making my blog offline for some time. I went through a lot over the past few months and I've been struggling to decide if I want to continue blogging or not.

For the time being I'm going to continue taking a break from blogging. I'd like to start again in January 2017, however I want to make some changes, which I think the people who actually read my blog will appreciate!

First of all, I will no longer use affiliate links. I have closed my account with ShopStyle. I never even made enough off links to cash out in the first place, but that is not the reason I'm going to discontinue using the links. Yes, I didn't end up making a dime off blogging. And that's ok. Some people make an income blogging, others do it for a hobby, some people fall somewhere in-between. I thought in-between could be an interesting spot for me, not to try and monetize my blog but if I made a few dollars that would be fine.

Well, even using the links I felt pressure to try and make something of them, this led to blogging being less enjoyable for me and defeating the very purpose I started my blog. So I closed the account, never received a dime and am totally fine with that. I will be removing all the old links from the blog so that there will be no affiliate links anywhere on my site.

Secondly, I will be posting sporadically. I know that this is not ideal for a blog read, but maintaining a strong posting schedule is just not realistic for me. I know it will hurt in page views, but those are no longer my concern. I had a handful of friends text me looking for my blog this fall and so if those are the only people reading, that's totally fine with me!

Thirdly, this blog will be completely for me. It always was, but I want to shift my focus to make it that way at it's heart. This is my hobby, not my business, so you can expect any posts to come from my heart and to be 100% my opinion only.

I hope my readers understand! I hope you all have been having a great fall and a very merry holiday season!

Best,

Laura

Paris City Guide: Where to Eat & Drink, What to Do, and Tips

ultimate_paris_guide

Hi everyone! As I mentioned in my last post that I just got back from a 10-day trip to France! It was an amazing trip and I'm so sad it's already come to an end. For those of you that don't know, I actually studied abroad in Paris in college and was itching to go back and visit, it was even on my 101 in 1001 list!

Earlier this year Alex and I were talking about going on vacation this year and I advocated hard for us to take a trip to France. First off, Alex had never been to Europe, and second off since I know the country fairly well planning the trip would be a little less stressful than going somewhere we've both never been and neither of us spoke the language. Also, for those of you with questions about the origin of my blog name (or why it's worded the way it is) see my 'About' page.

Anyways, for our trip we spent about 4 days total in Paris and the other six in the South of France, which I will post about in a separate guide post! I thought my readers might enjoy a little guide with some tips and tricks about Paris that I picked up on this trip and in the six months that I lived over there, so without further ado, here are my tips for getting the most out of Paris!

Getting there: Paris has two airports, Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Orly (ORY). Both are located outside of the city and there are public transportation options to get into Paris from the airports. For CDG I suggest taking the RER B into Paris, it will cost you 10 euro for a one-way ticket and will take 45 minutes to an hour to get to central Paris. for ORY I suggest taking the OrlyBus, this direct bus costs 8 euro and shuttles visitors between the 14th arrondissement and Orly airport. It takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. You could also take a cab from either airport, but it will cost you about 50+ euro from CDG and 30+ euro from ORY.

Getting Around: Now that you're in Paris you need to get around! Lucky for you the metro is a great system which is fairly easy to pick-up. Buy a packet of 10 metro tickets (un carnet) from the machines in any metro station. It's cheaper to buy a pack of 10 rather than individual tickets (and buying a ticket every time you need a train would be very annoying). There are 14 metro lines in the city and all run regularly throughout the day. The metro can take you basically anywhere you want to go, just look at the easy to read maps located in all stations to figure out which lines overlap and where to change trains. Unlike NYC there are no express trains, so every train will stop at every stop on it's line, just pay attention to the direction the trains are headed; especially if you take a line with a fork, which will have trains that go either way on the fork, this usually occurs at the ends of the lines and won't be an issue if you're staying in the heart of Paris.

Where to Stay: When I lived in Paris, I had a studio apartment in the 15th arrondissement near the La Motte-Picquet Grenelle metro stop. I have a really soft spot for this area since it was my home, but also upon re-visiting the city I realized it's also a great neighborhood for visitors. La Motte-Picquet has a more neighborhood-y vibe than some of the more touristy areas , but it still boasts three different metro lines which meet here, thus making getting around really easy. There's also plentiful cafes, a really nice Sunday outdoor market, and it's a 10 minute walk to the Champs de Mars (the lawn in front of the Eiffel Tower). La Motte-Picquet is also close to Rue de Commerce which is filled with great shopping that also isn't super touristy or over-crowded (like the Champs-Elysees).

This particular trip to Paris, however, Alex and I stayed at two different hotels, since our time in Paris bookended our visit to Southern France. When we first arrived in Paris we stayed at Renaissance Paris Republique hotel. This hotel was located right next to the Republique metro station, convenient distance to/from Gare du Nord (which is nice for those coming into Paris either on the RER or a regional train service) and was walking distance from the heart of the Marais neighborhood, which is on my favorites in the city. I loved this hotel since it was brand new and the rooms were much larger than most that you'll see in Europe. The rooms boasted the most comfortable beds ever, fluffy robes, a brand new rain shower, and great city views. They also had our room ready for our requested early check-in which was so nice.

When we got back to Paris after our time in the South of France, we stayed at the Grand Hotel Saint-Michel. This hotel is a boutique hotel located in the Latin Quarter (another area I adore) and walkable to Rue Moufftard which is one of my favorite streets to grab a bistro dinner or get a drink on. The hotel was also convenient to walk to the Jardin du Luxembourg; and the RER B station there which goes to Orly and CDG airports. The neighborhood is also close to the Notre Dame/Saint-Michel area which has a lot of cafes, shopping, and my favorite crepes shop (crepes Genia). Our room also had a little balcony which was really nice to step out onto and take in the sites.  An added bonus is that they stock your bathroom with Hermes beauty products in lieu of your typical hotel shampoos, conditioners, etc.

Where to Eat: Admittedly when I lived in Paris as a student I didn't eat out all that much. I mostly cooked dinner every night with my friends, ate yogurt for breakfast, and sandwiches from my school cafeteria for lunches. On this trip, however, Alex and I were more than willing to indulge in eating out at some of the places I've been wanting to try in Paris.

That being said, similar to the restaurant scene in NYC, there are TONS of amazing restaurants in Paris and this is by no means a complete list. If you're in the city I suggest looking up suggestions based on neighborhood, cuisine, price, etc. You can pretty much find whatever you're craving! From traditional French, to amazing burgers, to bomb Italian, to even tacos! Paris pretty much has it all. Here are some places I recommend:

- Pain, Vin, Fromage - located in Le Marais this little fondue restaurant is reasonably priced and offers a great Savonyard fondue. Their wines were also very reasonably priced and I enjoyed the neighborhood they're located in.

- Le Souffle - located near Concord metro station in the 1st Arrondissement this upscale restaurant specializes in both sweet and savory souffles. I tried the complete souffle menu, but the dessert souffle stole the show. If I ever go again I'm ordering the delicious looking steak-frites for my main course with the tomato and basil appetizer souffle and the all chocolate dessert souffle (which I would eat every day if I could).

- Le Refuge des Fondues - this little fondue place is located near Sacre Coeur in Montmatre. It's an experience for sure! You'll be greeted with an aperitif and possibly need to step over the table to get to your seat (keep this in mind when deciding on whether to wear a skirt or not). You can pick from cheese or beef fondue and everyone receives a bottle of wine in a baby bottle! It's a really fun experience with friends and not very expensive!

- Rue Moufftard - I'm just going to categorize the MANY bistros located along this road in one point. If you're looking for a traditional french bistro dinner, this is the place to go. They offer many prix-fix menus and you can get an appetizer, entree, and dessert for anywhere from 13.50 euro to 27 euro depending on the formula. There's also a lot of nightlife around here so there's plenty of bars to dip into for a quick drink!

What to Do: There's obviously so so so much to do in Paris. Honestly you could stay busy for weeks doing all the amazing things the city has to offer. Here are a sampling of my favorites:

- Have a picnic at the Champs de Mars - go to your local grocery store (or open-air market) and grab some cheese, bread, charcuterie, fruits, and wine. Take a blanket and head over to the Champs de Mars for a picnic. There's no laws against open containers of alcohol in Paris so feel free to enjoy a bottle of wine outside with your food! I usually get my goodies from the Monoprix at La Motte-Picquet Grenelle or the Sunday market there and take those treats to the Champs de Mars since it's about a 10 minute walk. Some other great markets are located at Rue Cler and Rue Daguerre.

- Picnic or have a bottle of wine along the Seine - the Seine river cuts Paris into two halve: Rive Gauche and Rive Droite (left river and right river). The banks of the Seine are accessible by lots of ramps, staircases, and steps along the river banks. In the summer the city even sets up pop-up restaurants and "beaches" along the river. It's very common to enjoy a few beers or glasses of wine sitting with friends along the river. When I studied here I would eat lunch along the river almost every day, there's something so magical about it!

- Take a Seine river boat tour - If you're going to do a city tour I highly recommend taking a Seine river cruise as your option. I usually use Bateaux Mouche when I go on tours with friends, but there are several options along the river, mostly boarding near Trocadero or Pont Alma. The tours last about an hour and go up the river showing you most of the most famous sites in the city. There are also night tour and dinner cruise options available if you're interested in that as well.

- Go to a museum - If you only have a few days in Paris and you're visiting during a very busy time you might not be able to go to all the famous museums the city has to offer, but you should at least try and make it to one. If you like art check out: the Louvre (most famous and has lots of very ancient artwork), Musee d'Orsay (my favorite, impressionist artwork in a converted train station), Musee Orangerie (the best place to see the famous water lilies paintings by Monet!), and Rodin Museum. There are also several modern art museums which are worth checking out if you're interested in that type of thing. If history is more your thing try visiting the army museum at Invalidies (you can see Napoleon's tomb as well), the catacombs, or the pantheon.

- Visit the famous monuments - Paris is chock-full of famous landmarks. Don't miss walking or taking the elevator up the Eiffel Tower, going to the Arc de Triomphe, visiting Notre Dame, hanging out on the steps of Sacre Coeur, and checking out the Grand Palais. These sites are all famous for a reason, and trust me they are breathtaking in person!
- Stroll through the gardens - whether it's the Tuileries gardens, Jardin de Luxembourg, or the Parc de Belleville, spend an afternoon strolling through one of these beautiful parks/gardens. They are all well maintained and provide an amazing afternoon soaking in the best Paris has to offer.

- Take a quick day trip to one of the amazing countryside towns easily accessible from Paris - I recommend Versailles (obviously), Giverny (to tour Monet's gardens), Reims (tour the champagne caves!), and Fountainbleu. The French train system makes it easy to book a train ticket the night before or the same day. Plug any of the aforementioned cities into the SNCF train website and see the times and rates for the trains and decide where to go!

Shopping Tips:

Obviously Paris is also famous for shopping! There are several neighborhoods chock-full of amazing shopping throughout the city. Some things to buy include French drugstore products, like my favorite the Bioderma Crealine H2O Micelle (the best make-up remover ever), also pick up Embryolisse moisturizer. These are basic drugstore products but so so good.

Another favorite store is Merci on Boulevard Beaumarche, they have a really great aesthetic and great jewelry pieces! I also love checking out all the great thrift shops in Le Marais neighborhood, the spanish brand Stradivarius, Pull & Bear, Longchamp, Saint-James, and also checking out the Galleries Lafayette shopping mall.

For books, walk along the Seine river near Notre Dame to check out the little antique book stores. The Notre Dame/Saint Michel neighborhood also has a ton of cute little bookshops as the Sorbonne and the Medical University of Paris are located in this area. If you're looking for English language books check out Shakespeare and Company.

Some things to stay away from buying are electronics, as they tend to be more expensive than in the States and you can technically only bring back about $800 of tax-free goods.

Other Do's and Don'ts:

- Do try and speak French! Even though many people in Paris speak English, they always appreciate the effort of trying a few French phrases.

- Do ask for a "carafe d'eau" at a restaurant to get a full jug of tap water. The tap water in Paris is totally safe to drink (and I think it tastes good!).

- Do leave about a 10% tip at restaurants; tips are included in the price of the food, however for good service leave a 10% tip as a general rule. For something small you can throw down a couple of euro, this is considered polite.

- Don't expect everywhere to have air conditioning! Especially the metro! My way to combat this is to bring a small hand-fan in my purse so I can cool myself off on those hot summer days. Also having a little spray bottle of mineral water can feel so refreshing after spending a hot afternoon without air conditioning.

- Do watch out for pick-pockets. I have seen one of my friends get pick-pocketed on the metro, the threat is real! The best thing to do is be aware of your surroundings, use a purse with a zipper and keep it closed (especially in crowded areas) and don't leave anything valuable in your pants pockets.

- Don't talk too loudly in public! The French tend to be a little quieter in general than Americans. Just try to talk in lower volumes when in public areas like the metro to be respectful.

- Don't bring your hair styling tools (unless they can handle 240 volts). You should check any American-bought electronics to be sure they can handle the higher voltage of power you will experience in France. My straightener and curling iron cannot handle it so I left them at home. I do have a small travel straightener from Sephora I pack along for little touch-ups, but I mostly rely on braids, ponytails, leaving my hair wavy, or blowing out my hair with the hotel blow-dryer to style myself while traveling.

- Do slow down and enjoy your time in Paris! The pace is a little slower in Paris than in big cities in the United States, just soak in every moment and enjoy! Look at the amazing architecture and appreciate that you can turn a corner and see a famous monument, a picturesque cafe, or the most adorable little shop. Take advantage of your time in the city of light and share photos so we can all live vicariously and be jealous!

Do you have any tips or suggestions for people visiting Paris? I'd love to hear so I can keep a list of things to check out next time I'm in the city!

Bonjour!

Oh hey, remember me? I'm so sorry about how MIA I went on here lately. Like I said in my last post, a lot happened all at once. I planned to post more before my trip to France and pre-schedule some posts for during the trip, but suddenly I had so much to do to actually prepare that time got away from me, and here we are. I got back to Philadelphia Monday night and took the day off Tuesday to catch-up on errands and get myself back into "real life mode". I head back to work today, but hopefully since it's just a three-day week it'll fly by!

I plan on working on a bunch of new posts and really diving back into blogging, there's so much content I have to share! Between France, travel tips, my new project, some upcoming travels and events, and the coming of fall (yes, i refuse to think it's fall already), there will be plenty to talk about on the blog!

So, come back and expect some posts soon, but in the meantime check out my Instagram for some sneak-peeks of our trip to France! I plan on posting more including an itinerary and travel tips for anyone planning a trip to Paris and the South of France in the future!

So how were your labor day weekends? I hope everyone had a great time and happy September!

6 Great Beach Reads

Tuesday, August 23, 2016

Hi guys! Sorry again for the little unplanned hiatus, things have been CRAZY around here. First off, I'm planning on having a post tomorrow to discuss this, but my cat Kalliope had to have emergency surgery last Monday night; she's doing fine now but it's been a lot dealing with that and managing her after care.  Then, day I picked Kalliope up from the hospital also happened to be the first day of a new work project where I now have an hour commute (but it's a great project and I like my new co-workers so I'm really happy about it).

All of that, coupled with going to D.C. for one of my college bestie's birthday and getting ready for our big trip to France on Friday made for some really hectic days. Anyways, I do want to get back to blogging and posting more regularly! I love reading all of your blogs and commenting on them, so I'm sorry for not being around!

Today, in preparation for the last holiday weekend of the summer, and the last official beach weekend of the year, I thought I would share six great beach reads to throw in your bag for your next trip! All of these have either been read by me or are downloaded on my Kindle to take with me to the beach next week.

ONE // The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Schumer - because who doesn't love Amy Schumer. This is next up on my books to read and I can't wait to read it.

TWO // Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter - This is also in my queue to read. I have had a lot of people recommend this to me, especially people that enjoy dark mystery thrillers!

THREE // The Light between Two Oceans by M.L. Stein - I'm in the middle of this book and really liking it so far! It's actually being made into a movie as well which I just saw the trailer for, and that looks good too!

FOUR // Big Little Lies by Lianne Moriarty - I finished this book at the beach two weeks ago in Delaware. I really enjoyed the plot and how it keeps you guessing right up until the end. The premise is a murder has occurred at a school event, but you don't know the victim or the murderer, and trust me there's lots of good twists!

FIVE // The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware - This has been recommended to me by a lot of friends and I'm looking forward to reading it! It's another dark thriller mystery (if you can't tell I love those types of books), set on a cruise ship! Possibly the perfect vacation read, unless of course you're taking a cruise.

SIX // The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty - Another Liane Moriarty book! This was the first book of her's I downloaded, per recommendation of Grace. I really enjoyed the book, and read it so quickly! I prefer Big Little Lies if you're going to start with one of her books, start there, but I honestly would suggest both as fun beach reads!

Have you read any of these books? What are some of your suggestions for fun beach reads, I'm always looking for new books to read!

Hi everyone! Happy Tuesday! I'm sorry for my little unplanned weeklong absence from the blog. I love blogging and I've really enjoyed creating content, working on my blog, and growing it over the last 11 months (one year blogging anniversary is in September - crazy!). However, sometimes I just find myself busy with work and personal life and feeling a little uninspired to write - I'm sure other bloggers reading this understand.

Anyways, I decided last week that if I wasn't feeling it I wasn't going to force it. And so I took a week off, and now I'm feeling refreshed and excited for upcoming new content! For today I wanted to share a couple of photos from the past two weekends, the first few are of my trip to Dewey Beach in Delaware for the weekend with Alex's family. They don't live close to us to it was nice to get to see them and spend a weekend at the beach.

This past weekend we went back to the beach for Friday night and attended a wedding for two of Alex's college friends and former crew teammates, it was fun since all of his friends were in attendance; not to mention the venue was 50 stories above Philly, allowing us to have awesome views of the city. I snapped the picture above of the beautiful sunset over the city.

We also have a lot of exciting things coming up, first off tomorrow I'm starting a new project for work! I was on my NYC assignment from December until this past Friday so I'm excited that we were able to complete it and now I get to try something new. This project is local, but may involve a little bit of travel to subsidiary companies. I'm actually really excited to have a stable schedule working with a local company, hopefully this allows me to have a better gym schedule too -- I've been falling a little behind! This upcoming weekend I'm heading out of town to visit some college friends and then our big trip to France is coming up in less than two weeks! So much to look forward to, I'm so excited for everything to come! Be sure to keep checking in on the blog as I plan to have some new content related to all the exciting happenings, and follow along on Instagram and Snapchat (sorry I'm not into Instagram stories) for more frequent updates!

I hope everyone is having a great summer, enjoy the last few weeks of it!

TGIF & Friday Links vol. 12

Friday, August 5, 2016

Happy Friday everyone! I feel like I was way to absent from the blog this week, sorry about that! With it being the last month of summer I've been staying busy and unfortunately fell a little behind on blogging. This weekend, Alex and I are headed down to Delaware to go to the beach with his family. I wish we could go for the whole week, but I'll take any little tastes of the beach I can get.

Anyways, I wanted to share some fun things from around the internet this week to coast you into your weekend:

1// Any other Bachelorette fans out there? I thought this article on how long will Jordan and Jojo last to be pretty hilarious (and probably true)

2// In other TV news, does anyone else watch Big Brother (guilty), well CBS announced a season 19 will air this fall on CBS all access. Read all about it here.

3// I'm beginning to think about what I want to bring to France, I liked seeing what Grace wore for her 5 day trip to France recently!

4// If you're in the blogging world or love reading blogs then you've probably heard of Julia Engle of Gal Meets Glam. I liked this interview she recently did with LaurenConrad.com, read it here.

5// I really want this skirt, and it's an additional 20% off!

6// Which Harry Potter house does your cat belong in? Because why not. Kalliope is apparently a Ravenclaw. Take the quiz here.

Also, if you missed it, I wore a really cute little gingham skirt on the blog this week. Check out the post here!

Have a great Friday and a fun weekend everyone!

Little Gingham Skirt

Monday, August 1, 2016

gingham_mini_skirt_summer_fashion
Somehow July has come and gone and it's already August 1st today! August always was a big month for me when I was still a student, it often involved back to school shopping, moving to a new dorm, starting a new semester, seeing old friends again, and all together big changes.
gingham_mini_skirt_summer_fashion
gingham_mini_skirt_summer_fashion
One of the biggest adjustments post-college is that there's no big "new start" every year like when you're in college and even grade school. All the same, I still like to savor every moment of summer, and that includes dressing the part.
gingham_mini_skirt_summer_fashion
I scooped up this cute little gingham mini skirt from J.Crew on sale in July and I'm so happy I decided to bite the bullet and buy it. It's the perfect piece to wear to dinner, going out, or hanging out on a hot summer afternoon. I wore this outfit on Friday night when we had our friends Laura and Kevin from my work over for dinner, I liked the combo of the white cropped top with the high-waisted gingham skirt so much I wanted to share it here on the blog.

TBT: Memories of France

Thursday, July 28, 2016

It's hard to believe its been over five years since I spent my semester abroad in France. It truly was one of my favorite periods of my life and helped me grow and learn in so many ways, both in and outside of the classroom.
First off, I went to Paris without knowing a single person. I was on exchange at SciencesPo but no other students from Tulane went over my semester. Not only that, my school does not have dorms and therefore we had to secure our own apartment in Paris to live in. While at first this seemed REALLY scary (especially because I found my apartment online and wired the money to my landlord before leaving the United States, a HUGE leap of faith) it turned out to be THE BEST thing ever.
I think studying abroad is one of the best experiences you can have in college, and everyone should take advantage if possible. Studying abroad not only brushed up on my language skills but it taught me to make new friends, come out of my comfort zone, and learn confidence and independence that I never thought I had.

That being said, I'm so so so excited that I'm going back to France, in less than a month! While I would love to move back to Europe I will take a 10-day vacation. I decided it'd be fun to do another TBT travel post (like this one I did in October about my time in Peru) and go through some photos that bring back fond memories of my time in France.

Why go back to France? Why not go somewhere else? Well, while Alex and I considered going to a new country, he has never been to France. It's such a special place to me that I really wanted to take Alex and show him around Paris, and explore a new part of the country I haven't seen yet. So, look forward to a couple more posts about packing, favorite spots, etc. in the weeks leading up to our trip. If you can't tell I'm very excited, seriously is it time to go yet?

One last note, when going through my old photos for this post I found this picture from 2011 in Paris, ironic since Pokemon Go has made it that they really ARE everywhere now, anyone else playing?

Stitch Fix Box #2 - Review & Try-On

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

First off, how is it already the end of July? I feel like summer is just FLYING by and I don't know how I feel about it? This past weekend I had a work event on Saturday in Wilmington, so I drove down early to shop at Nordstrom in Delaware before the event and see if I wanted to scoop up any fall looks on sale (#Nsale). Unfortunately, the booties I had my eye on were sold out EVERYWHERE in my size, but I did score this cocoon cardigan which I'm already in love with.

Anyways, if you have been reading for a little while you'll remember that last month I scheduled my first Stitch Fix! I really loved the experience and my stylist Shawna is great! I decided to get another fix this summer and see what other pieces they sent me.

That fix arrived last Friday and it seriously feels like Christmas morning opening up my fix! I'll show you everything I got and let you know what I'm keeping, but first off here's a brief summary of how Stitch Fix works for those of you who don't know (for those of you familiar with the process, you can skip this part):

1// First fill out your style profile. They will ask you about your sizing, style preference, budget, etc. I really liked how detailed this quiz is because I was able to let them know how tall I am, what colors I usually don't wear, and other random things which will help them pick better pieces for me. You can even link a fashion board on Pinterest for them to get a better sense of your style.

2// Schedule your fix! You will be charged a $20 styling fee but that amount will come off of any clothing items you decide to keep! You can also choose to sign up for monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly fixes! I choose to not subscribe so I can just ask for a fix whenever I feel I'd like to try something different. It's whatever works best for your style and budget! You can also leave your stylist a note when you schedule your fix, letting them know about upcoming events (I told them about my vacations planned for the summer), if there's something you don't want (I asked them to only send clothing and no blue jeans), or anything else!

3// When you fix arrives try everything on and decide what you like! It's great because you can see if the pieces work with other things in your closet. Also you can have some time to try them on in the comfort of your own home. If you decide to keep all 5 items you will receive 25% off your entire fix!

4// Check out online and send back any unwanted items in a prepaid mailing envelope, it's so easy! Additionally, Stitch Fix includes styling cards which will give you different ideas for ways to wear the pieces!

Anyways, on to what I received in my second box! I let my stylist know about an upcoming wedding I'm attending and my big trip to trip France. I also let her know that I'd like at least one piece I could wear to work. I also pinned a lot on my Pinterest board with ideas so she could get a sense of my style. I think she did a great job again. I was on the fence about a couple of the items, but since I did some other shopping this month I decided to be more conservative with my budget.

1// LOVEAPPELA - Torie Knit Dress - Size Large - $68 - kept

I loved this piece as soon as I pulled it out of the box. The length is long enough to wear to work, it's comfortable, and I love the striped pattern. Win win win!

2 & 3. Market and Spruce - Poplin Eyelet Detail Top & Margaret M  - Sophie Printed Trim Detail Straight Leg Pant - both size large - $58 (top) $98 (pants)

I apologize because it was probably 100 degrees when we were taking these photos and it was about to storm, so I didn't get the chance to iron this top out and make it look as cute as it is. I was really on the fence about the top because I do like the cut-out bottom detail and I don't have many white tops. That said, I don't think I could wear it to work because of the cut-out bottom so I decided to return.

The pants my stylist sent me as they are the same cut as the shorts I loved from my first fix. While they are comfortable, I thought they fell a little short on my leg and didn't quite flatter my legs. So unfortunately they went back.

I like how cool and breezy this top was, and it was very comfortable. I like that my stylist sent me something I normally wouldn't gravitate towards during my normal shopping, that's why I'm doing this service anyways! However, the top cut weird on my chest, I think it'd work better for someone with a smaller chest (like A or B) or someone that does not want to accentuate their waist and prefers to accentuate other areas.

I was on the fence about sending this one back as well. My stylist actually sent this to me because she noted I had pinned it on my style board! While I like the color and look of this top, the sleeves were a little itchy and not super comfortable. For that reason I don't see myself reaching for this and I decided to send it back. Hopefully I won't regret it!

What did you think about my second fix? What would you keep or return?

Five Four Club Review & Guest Post by my Boyfriend

Thursday, July 21, 2016

Hi everyone! I have a little bit of a different post for you all today, a guest post from my boyfriend, Alex! If you read here a lot you'll notice I just tried my first Stitch Fix box in June (and my second fix is scheduled to arrive today, yay!). I was talking to Alex about the service and commented it'd be nice if there was a similar service for men, especially since most men hate shopping. Alex decided to sign up for a service called Five Four Club and I asked if he'd review it for the blog since I think other men and some of my female readers' husbands, boyfriends, brothers, etc might be interested in the company! So without further ado here is Alex's post.

Hello people of the internet, I'm Alex, Laura's boyfriend.  If you're a regular on here I'm sure you've seen my work as I take most of the pictures that Laura features on here.  Well today Laura decided to let me write my own post about a new clothing delivery company that I just started using, Five Four Club.

So, here's how it works, it's only 60 dollars a month and I got five pieces of clothes, which I think is great value.  Shipping is free, but there are no returns for different clothes; you can however exchange sizes if something doesn't fit you right. When you first log into the site it'll ask you a few questions about your style. you can pick from Forward, Casual, Classic, or a mix of all three. For my first box I decided to go with mix so I could get a feel overall of what the company has to offer.  Next, they'll ask if you want Vibrant and Rich, or Dark and Muted for your color scheme, I went with Vibrant and Rich.  After that they ask your top size, ranging from small to triple XL, I'm a large.  After that the questions shift to your pants size, from 29 to 44, and what style you want Slim, Straight, or Relaxed. I'm a 34 and I went with a Straight fit.  So without further ado, here is what I got in the box.

The first thing I tried on was a classic white collared shirt.  I think this is something every guy should have in their closet, as it really screams summer to me.  It was a good fit overall.

Next we have a white graphic shirt and a pair of swim trunks.  Again both fit very well.  I liked the look and feel of the shirt as I could see myself wearing it while I'm relaxing at home or for a night on the town. The swim trunks were nice too. I liked that they ended just above my knees.

Next is a blue Henley shirt.  Laura says this is her favorite piece that I got and I can see why.  Definitely a shirt she will approve of when we go out. I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but again it's a great fit.

And last we have a pair of no show socks.  They say left and right on them, which is good for me as I constantly forget which feet my socks need to go on.

So overall I would 100 percent recommend Five Four Club.  As I've said everything that I got fits me really well.  The quality of the clothing is really good too, and at 60 dollars a month it's a really great deal too. You can cancel at any time, but I will definitely be a monthly customer of this quality service.  Also, they have their own exclusive store where you can buy clothes from their previous months box, all at half off their original prices.  So if this sounds like something you'd like to try, or ladies, if this sounds like something your boyfriend or husband would like as a gift I have great news. If you follow this link, you can get your first box for 30 dollars, 50 percent off.  So that's everything from me, I hope you enjoyed my post, Laura will be back soon, bye everyone.
