Los Angeles Recommendations?

Hey friends! Happy Friday! I'm so so excited it's finally the weekend! I'm heading back to Philly tonight and excited that I'll be going to dinner at one of my favorite spots in the city, Sampan, for a work event. Then I need to get down to packing, running errands, and cleaning the apartment because Alex and I leave for L.A. next Tuesday! I was in L.A. in November for work training, but I didn't get a chance to explore as much as I would've liked. Luckily, Alex's cousin is getting married next Saturday and she just happens to live in L.A.

We'll be staying in a home Alex's family rented just a mile off Venice Beach and I'm so excited. Sunny, warm, beach days are calling my name! We're going to have three full days to explore before the wedding so I'd love your recommendations if you're from the area or have visited!

I'd especially love any bar/restaurant recommendations and any good places to grab breakfast and coffee near Venice Beach! I plan on brining my camera and hopefully getting some good pictures for the blog, but follow along on Snapchat and Instagram (@lauraaimevous on both) for real-time updates!

Have a great weekend and thanks for your tips!

Spring Uniform

Thursday, April 21, 2016

I think interesting details on an otherwise basic piece are one of the number one things I look for in a piece of new clothing. Take this striped short-sleeve top, for instance, in the front it looks like a basic t-shirt. However, the button detail and v-cut back add interesting details to take it to the next level.

Maybe that's why I end up with so many pieces of clothing that don't work with a lot of other things (I am planning on doing a YouTube video or something of some of my more ridiculous pieces of clothing). That said, I think this top is a real winner, the special details make the top interesting yet its basic enough that I can wear it all the time. It's the perfect part of my "uniform" so to speak for Spring. A lightweight jacket, my trusty rainboots (you never know), comfortable jeans (discussed in more detail here), and a simple striped top

Anyways, it's Thursday which means Friday is just around the corner. I REALLY can't wait for this weekend because vacation is right around the corner! And I'm thinking of changing over my wardrobe for Summer? Will I jinx it if I do?

What do you think? Do you prefer more basic pieces or items of clothing that have extra-elements? What's your Spring uniform?

Chambray Ruffle Top

Hey guys! Happy Tuesday! I hope your weeks are off to a great start. I'm actually pretty excited because I have a couple of fun "NYC' activities to do after work this week, and the weather is FINALLY cooperating. Tonight I'm headed to dinner at Raclette in the Lower East Side with one of my roommates from Tulane, Risa. I am excited for ALL THE CHEESE. I hope to capture a perfectly Instagram-able moment, because #bloggerproblems.

Anyways, today I wanted to share this outfit with you that I wore two weekends ago to brunch with my parents and then to run errands around Philly. I am in love with this chambray top, see last weeks post here where I proclaim my love for all things chambray. I love that this top can be worn on or off-shoulder. Which means this will not be the last time you see this little number on the blog (hint hint).

Also, these high-waisted AG jeans are amazing. They're super soft and stretchy and honestly feel more like a pair of sweatpants than jeans. They are the perfect jeans for traveling because you can look more put together than wearing yoga pants, but sacrifice no comfort. I actually sized up on these, due to the reviews, and mine are extra-loose. I think if you want a more fitted feel (that's still comfy) you should order your normal size, or size up to obtain the magical sweatpant jeans!

Hope your Tuesday is amazing!

Weekend Rewind vol. 5

Monday, April 18, 2016

Hey everyone, happy Monday! I have some fun posts coming up for you this weekend, but today I thought it'd be fun to share some photos from this past weekend and give you a little weekend recap post since I haven't done one in awhile.

Hello Friends! Happy Monday! I can't believe the weekend is already over. My friend Lori's birthday was this past week and she had a big birthday party on Saturday night. Lori and I were in the same sorority at Tulane and so our sorority sisters Alex and Lauren decided to make the trip up from D.C. to join in the celebrations. It was a great mini-reunion and we had amazing weather, I couldn't have asked for a better weekend!

On Friday night after we all arrived in Philly we went to The Franklin Bar which is a speakeasy style bar in Center City with amazing cocktails. We went to the Upstairs Bar portion which has a tropical theme and played amazing 90's music the whole time. Needless to say, I'll be back. We went to brunch on Saturday at The Dandelion, which is a British pub themed restaurant in Rittenhouse Square neighborhood in Philly and on Sunday we went to Hickory Lane Bistro in the Fairmount area. Both were delicious and I highly recommend if you're planning on visiting (or live in) Philly.

Other than eating and drinking we tried to spend time walking around the city and enjoying the weather. We went to Cira Green on Sunday afternoon which is quickly becoming one of my favorite outdoor spaces in the city (remember this post which I shot at Cira Green?).

Now, one more week of work until I'm back in Philly and getting ready to go to California next week! I am so ready for a little vacation, so I can't wait!

How were your weekends? Hope you have a great day!

Currently...{4.15.16}

Friday, April 15, 2016

Hey there and HAPPY FRIDAY! We made it guys, and it was a long week. I know I say that a lot but, wow. I'm excited to be heading back down to Philly after work for the weekend, and one of my best friends from Tulane is visiting for our friend Lori's birthday this weekend! I'm looking forward to a weekend full of relaxing, brunching, a few drinks, and dancing. What are you up to this weekend?

Anyways, it's been a little bit since I shared a "currently" post, see the last one from February here. Since the season has changed I thought I'd give you a little snapshot of everything I've been loving lately!

(I've been entering the ticket lottery everyday, it's SO GOOD GUYS!)

Eating // Pretzel Rods
(not in the diet plan, but I've been addicted lately for some reason)

Drinking // Starbuck's Iced (skim) Green Tea Lattes
I'm not a big fan of iced coffee, but when the weather turns warmer I like to replace my morning coffee with an iced GTL. So good and it wakes me up in the morning!

Watching // Scandal
I'm so behind on this, but I just started Season 1 on Netflix. I'm hooked. Any fans out there?

(as seen in this outfit post) This is my go-to for Spring and Fall! It's lightweight and perfect to throw on in the morning!

They're so cute but so expensive for a bathing suit! I really would love one for the beach this summer but I'm having a hard time justifying the purchase. Anyone have one and love it?

What are your current monthly favorites?

Chambray Midi-Skirt

Thursday, April 14, 2016

Outfit: Chambray Midi Skirt (on sale) // ASOS Off-Shoulder Top, old, similar here, here, and here
Espadrille Wedges (similar here and here) // Pearl Studs (exact, similar)

I love wearing chambray in the Spring. I actually remember buying my first chambray piece of clothing, a chambray button-down from Lucky Brand back when I was in high school. I always used to buy jeans from them in high school because they made longer length denim that I could try-on in stores back when long length pants were not as common. I was in the store with my mom and spotted the top on the clearance rack for about $25 and asked my mom if I could get it. She rolled her eyes, because who wanted a denim button-down, but got it for me anyways. My obsession with the fabric was born.

Now, luckily for me, chambray is available in so many fun pieces and is widely accepted as a versatile clothing item. I spotted this chambray midi-skirt on the Old Navy website and knew that it would be a great item to add to my wardrobe for the Spring. I decided to wear it with a breezy off-shoulder top (so glad those are back in again this year). Unfortunately, my exact top is from last year, but I linked a couple of fun alternative striped off-shoulder options above. I am constantly adding off-shoulder tops to my cart and am so tempted to load up on them, because they are so cute! Gimme them all!

Are you loving all the chambray and off-shoulder options this spring? If you have any favorite pieces I'd love to check them out!

Scalloped Flats: Save, Spend, Splurge

Save Spend Splurge Scalloped Ballet Flats

Save ($25) // Spend // Splurge

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday! Today I wanted to share with you a few options for a classic wardrobe piece which is perfect to wear around town or to work; the scalloped ballet flats. I've been wanting a pair of classic Chloe ballet flats for quite some time, but I haven't been able to convince myself to drop the $500 on a pair yet. However while browsing online for some new work shoes this past weekend I came across this pair from Kohl's for $25! They look super cute and will definitely satisfy the need for everything scalloped in your wardrobe if you're not quite ready to splurge.

Coming in at $100 Sam Edelman offers a popular scalloped flat which comes in all different colors and patterns. These are probably a little better made than the Kohl's pair but are much easier on the wallet than the Chloe pair

Do you have a pair of scalloped ballet flats? Which pair is your favorite?

What's in my Sephora (Sale) Bag

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

Hey everyone! Happy Tuesday! If you're a beauty junkie like me then you are probably already well aware of the Spring Sephora VIB & VIB Rouge sale happening right now! The sale ends tomorrow, so if you haven't already now is the time to stock up and splurge on everything you've been lusting after from Sephora since the last sale in November.

Since these sales are so infrequent I try to stock up on items I use time and time again, but I also try to throw in one or two new things to try every year. I thought it'd be fun to share with you today what I've bought from the sale! Most of these items I've tried before and LOVE and so I just want to stock up while I can get them at a discount. I added a couple new things to my cart, so hopefully we'll have some winners! I'm working on an updated beauty post which I hope to have done in a few weeks, so I'll let you know then how I'm feeling about them.

ONE // First up, I got a new tube of the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir mascara. I got this mascara in January on a whim and I am in love. I've never found a mascara which makes my eyelashes look as full and long as this one, without clumping. It's like magic! Obsessed.

TWO // I also decided to try one of the new Urban Decay Beached bronzers. I've heard good things about these bronzers and decided to go with the lighter shade. As I'm extremely pale (read: the color of a sheet of paper) I need a little color on my cheeks. I've read this powder is super blend-able and looks like a natural tan. I hope it's a winner so I can stash in my bag for my California trip in two weeks.

THREE // I also decided to stock up on the Bare Minerals Skinlongevity Serum. I got a bottle of this back in January as well and have been using about a pump's worth every morning and night. I've noticed my skin is looking a little brighter and it's feeling more nourished. I really like this serum and decided this was a good time to replace my bottle as I'm almost out.

FOUR // I got a back-up Too Faced Born This Way Foundation. I talked about liking this foundation in this post, and I'm still really enjoying it! It's full coverage but it doesn't look face or cake-y. I also like that it doesn't rub off (don't you hate when you're on the phone and you look at the screen after and see your make-up all over it? Gross). This is what I wear to work or when I need a full face of make-up. The bottle I've had is still going strong but since I like it so much I decided to get another during the sale.

FIVE // Anastasia Brow Wiz Pencil - I'm currently using the Hourglass Brow Arch Sculpting pencil and I really like it. That said, the Anastasia Brow Wiz is a cult favorite and I decided I wanted to try it out. I've heard so many raving praises of it that I have pretty high hopes. I'll let you know what I think!

SIX // I talked about my love for the Supergoop CC Cream in this post. I love the formula of this and it's my go-to face coverage for Summer. I know I'll be switching over from my Too Faced Born This Way Foundation once the weather turns hot and humid, so I'll be happy I stocked up.

SEVEN // Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in 'Dim Light'. This is a holy grail product for me. It makes my skin looks SO much better than any other powder I've used. I cannot say enough good things about this product and I decided to get an extra to have whenever I run out of the current one I'm using.

EIGHT // I've heard such good things about Smashbox primers that I decided to try one out despite the steep price. I got the Photo Finish formula with SPF 20, since the Too Faced foundation I'm using doesn't have SPF in it, I wanted to make sure I had something on to protect my skin on a day to day basis. So face I have to say the formula feels really nice on my skin and it has made my foundation go on very smoothly. I wore it all day yesterday, traveling to NYC from Philly and working a 12-hour day and my make-up looked pretty good when I got home. So far I think it's worth the price.

NINE // Clinique Chubby Stick Baby Tint. So confession, I am a total sucker for Clinique's chubby stick products. They're just so great for throwing in a make-up bag to bring to work, traveling, etc. I decided to try out their newest addition to the line and I really like it so far! This "baby tint" goes on almost clear and then "blooms" to add color that compliment's your lips' natural shade. I got the 'Coming Up Rosy' shade and I have to say, the color is perfect when you don't want to wear too much make-up but want a little extra color in your lips. The formula is also nice and moisturizing, I'm already looking at what other colors I should add to my collection.

If you want to shop the sale remember these useful codes: Beauty Insiders (BI) get 10% through today (4/12) using code 'BINOTE', VIB gets 15% off through tomorrow with code 'VIBNOTE' and VIB Rouge gets 15% off through tomorrow (4/13) using code 'ROUGENOTE'.

If you want to see more of my picks and reviews for products from Sephora check out my November sale picks post, November Rouge Sale Haul, Everyday Make-up Routine/Favorites, and Recent Beauty Hits and Misses.

What will you be getting from the Sephora sale? Do you like any of the products I mentioned above? I'm always looking for new things to try!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Monday, April 11, 2016

Happy Monday guys! Even though it might not feel like it, Spring is in full swing, including baseball season! Today is the Phillies' home opener at Citizen's Bank Park in South Philly! Even though I'm back in NYC for work this week, I thought it'd be fun to share what I'd wear to the game if I was able to go tonight!

Outfit: Jean Jacket (similar) // Jack Rogers sandals in Platinum (on sale for under $100)
Duke & Winston Tank Top (sold out, but here's an adorable sweatshirt version, on sale)
White Jeggings (similar) // New Era Phillies Cap // Pearl Studs (exact, similar)

I love Red, White, and Blue as a combo in my outfits, it's very convenient that these are the colors of the Phillies! I decided to wear a bold red lip, jean jacket, and white jeans to really get in the spirit of red, white, and blue.

Will you be going to any baseball games this Spring? What will you be wearing? How was your weekend? I hope you have a great day!

April Goals + March Recap

Sunday, April 10, 2016

Ok ok, I've been a bad blogger. Like, I know I talked about taking a little break in this post, but I did not intend to really take such a long break. And I apologize for that, but hey I'm feeling MUCH better, a lot more refreshed, the weather is slowly improving, and things are looking up. The days are longer, Summer isn't such a distant memory, and Winter is fading away. I'm excited, I'm ready for the rest of the year. Is it just me or does it sometimes feel like the year doesn't really start until Mid-April, the first three months are so cold, dark, and busy (in my line of work) that I feel like most of my best memories of the year all come from April onward.

Anyways, I set some goals in March, original post is here, and I wanted to check in and let you all know my progress! And then I wanted to get set on setting some goals for myself in April!

For March I had a big emphasis on healthy living and redefining my lifestyle to be more health-focused. I think the for the most part I did a pretty good job on this. The one area I still need to work on is eating healthier. Since I'm still living in NYC during the week and eating all my meals out Monday - Friday it's REALLY hard to control your diet. I've found some go-to healthy options in my neighborhood, but I sometimes have a lot of trouble sticking to just those choices (especially because I get sick of them since I've been living here for four months now).

For working out and drinking more water I am REALLY proud of my progress. I've been going to the gym about five times a week and sticking to BBG, except for the week I was so sick and even had to take a day and a half off of work. I am planning to keep this up in April and even try to push myself harder, I'll be on the beach in less than 3 weeks so no time like the present!

I also finished three books in March which was one of my goals! I finished All the Light We Cannot See, which I loved and recommend highly! After reading that I decided I wanted something a little lighter and breezed through To All the Boys I Loved Before and the sequel P.S. I Still Love You. They're both YA novels, but after reading a heavier book I usually tend to reach for a light read. Any suggestions on what I should read next? I love reading on Amtrak every week and I've been trying to squeeze in 20-30 minutes before bed every night. Please leave your suggestions in the comments!

Well, that was my progress for March, and here's what I'd like to do in April:

ONE // Work out 6 days a week, and at least 7 times a week. I really want to step up my fitness game and focus on getting healthy and in shape. I plan on continuing BBG and possibly doing yoga and spinning once or twice a week to spice things up. I've been thinking about Pure Barre too, any thoughts on it?

TWO // Blog 4 times a week for the rest of the month. I have totally been slacking in my blogging, but I want to get back into a really regular routine. I'm hoping to be putting out new content much more regularly.

THREE // Work on growing my other social media platforms. With the lapse in blogging I also slacked a bit on my Instagram and Twitter accounts. I know these are important platforms to interact with others and grow your blog. I'd like to get back into the groove and utilize these more this month. Hopefully my trip to L.A. will give me lots of great shots to Instagram later this month!

FOUR // Wake up by 7am every day during the week. I am lucky that I don't have to be to work until around 9am most days. I also stay a 10 minute walk from the office, which leads to me sleeping in every morning unless I drag myself out of bed to go to the gym. I've always been a night-owl, but it's getting ridiculous. I'd love to get up and have some me time every morning to read, have coffee, and start each day on a peaceful note before rushing into work.

FIVE // Going hand-in-hand with working out more, I'd love to hit my FitBit step goal everyday. It's a lofty goal, but I really should just force myself to move more and not be lazy. Also, I swear but I'm going to win the Workweek Hustle against my friends one of these days, Brynn if you're reading this that means I'm coming for you.

Well, I hope you stuck with me through my absence and are looking forward to fun things to come! I am a warm weather person so really, it's getting to be the time of year that I'm happiest. What are your goals for the month and how did you do in achieving any personal goals you set for yourself so far this year?
